About Jo Tastula

Yoga on the mat is a sacred laboratory where we can shed our protective exterior and be with ourselves in a deep and healing way. I offer Vinyasa Flow classes that are devoted to creating a sacred space in which we can channel energy towards transformative and life affirming means. This is done through intention, dedication, prayer, conscious breath, sound and movements that reflect radical self care in the truth of the moment. Vinyasa is an unhurried exploratory and creative flow that is steeped in the traditions of yoga master Krishnamacharya and the yoga traditions of Iyengar and Ashtanga yoga. With close to 20 years of practice and devotion to the healing arts including; mindfulness meditation, Shiatsu & 5 Element Theory, Energetic Bodywork, Prenatal/Post Natal yoga, Nutrition, Anatomy/Physiology and Core Shamanism; I bring into the practice a reverence for the mystery of life and encourage all students to practice with spontaneity by stepping into the unknown.

Blessings to you on your journey and I look forward to the time when our paths cross <3

Strength and Grace

Vinyasa Flow with Jo Tastula

Although seemingly contradictory, these two elements compliment each other and when practiced in harmony. A strengthening class without being too strenuous or heated, focus on masculine and feminine energies while stepping lightly with control and moving with grace. Peak postures are vashistasana, side plank with leg extended and pincha mayurasana. Mix in restorative postures and leave with a sense of inner balance and calm. Props Suggested: A block.

High Vibrations Yoga DVD:
Inner Peace and Outer Strength

What are High Vibrations?
Everything is energy. All of existence is pulsing and vibrating with the creative forces of life. The ancient yogis called this pulse spanda or the sacred tremor. This divine impulse of life is universal and is in everything and everyone. It’s the creative spark that sets the rhythm of life into motion. It moves the planets and the stars and creates cycles and seasons. On a personal level it can be felt as a deep desire to live in alignment with your own true nature and to follow your heart.

We all know what it’s like to live out of alignment with this creative force due to stress, pent-up emotions and unhealthy lifestyle. Life seems dull and we are overcome with lethargy and feel uninspired. These high vibratory practices are remedies for this misalignment and focus your thought and intention back into authentic action. As you become more aware of the role you play in the creation of your life; your thoughts, words and the way you behave can become offerings to what ever it is that you want to generate in your life and in the world.

  • DVD is region free
  • Includes 5 meditations with accompanying practices specifically designed to inspire you to live openly and courageously!
  • Plus, angelic music from award winning artist Lisbeth Scott whose vocals and musicality transport and transform.

Mother. Om tara tuttare ture svaha

Mother. Om tara tuttare ture svaha

Deities represent our own inner potential.

One of my favorite deities of Tibetan Buddhism is Tara, a manifestation of the universal mother. In fact this very portrait of her hangs above my bed (illustrated by a wonderful L.A. based artist Jon Marro). Recently her mantra has been calling to me. Like a friend in the distance beckoning me closer. Part of the yoga practice is to pay attention to such urges. In the eternal pantheon of cosmic deities, which one is best for you? A good place to start is to observe which form connects you to a feeling of peaceful radiance. Tara came to me at a time when I was grappling with the dichotomy of excitement in becoming a new mother and terror of loosing my own beloved mother. Tara became the mother of us all: a force that I could surrender to and release all that was unfathomable. Tara means star as in luminous radiant perfection and guiding light. Other translations are ‘the one who ferries across’ and ‘she who saves’. Through her grace I was able to let go of the personal story of ‘me’ and...
