About Jo Tastula

Yoga on the mat is a sacred laboratory where we can shed our protective exterior and be with ourselves in a deep and healing way. I offer Vinyasa Flow classes that are devoted to creating a sacred space in which we can channel energy towards transformative and life affirming means. This is done through intention, dedication, prayer, conscious breath, sound and movements that reflect radical self care in the truth of the moment. Vinyasa is an unhurried exploratory and creative flow that is steeped in the traditions of yoga master Krishnamacharya and the yoga traditions of Iyengar and Ashtanga yoga. With close to 20 years of practice and devotion to the healing arts including; mindfulness meditation, Shiatsu & 5 Element Theory, Energetic Bodywork, Prenatal/Post Natal yoga, Nutrition, Anatomy/Physiology and Core Shamanism; I bring into the practice a reverence for the mystery of life and encourage all students to practice with spontaneity by stepping into the unknown.

Yogaglo logo courses

Courses on yogaglo provide a detailed exploration of a subject in a workshop-style setting. They allow you to connect with your teacher and fellow students via discussion forums and include supporting materials such as instructor notes, quizzes and assignments. Courses are not included with a YogaGlo subscription and can be purchased individually.

What's in this Course?
This course is made up of eight modules, including twelve lectures, five meditations and nine asana practices. The modules include beautifully designed PDF's to track lunar cycles as well as insightful information on how to set up a personal sacred space.

Yogaglo logo programs

Programs available on yogaglo are short series of sequential classes designed to deliver a specific outcome from a consistent practice. They demonstrate the correct execution of asana and meditation, but generally do not explain yoga theory or advanced knowledge of the subject matter. Programs are part of YogaGlo’s general content library and are included with a membership.

Yoga nidra is deep rest straddling the worlds of wakefulness and sleep. In this place, insightful observation of your inner world is possible. Use this time to reflect on your sankalpa, or your intention, while engaging in sensory somatic awareness. While quieting your mind and actively resting your body, begin to cultivate your heartfelt prayer for peace, both inside and out. Come out of this meditation with a new perspective and profound sense of serenity. Props Needed: A blanket. Props Suggested: A bolster.

Vinyasa Flow with Jo Tastula

Resist pressing the fast-forward button on your life and open to the uniqueness of each moment. Building in intensity from seated shoulder and chest openers to crescent side plank vinyasas, continue to let the heat grow in a methodical and meditative way. Dolphin pose adds strength to your upper body, with peacock prep poses (hip openers) sprinkled throughout. A challenging standing balance sequence follows, finishing with lotus and arm balance play. Props Suggested: A strap and a blanket.

Mantra is the missing link in current day practice, as it brings in sacred sound vibration as a way to embody attributes of the divine. Begin seated and learn a chant dedicated to Tara, the Buddhist liberator and universal mother. Focus on her mantra of "om tara tuttare ture swaha," which is said to transmit radiant qualities of abundance, longevity and compassion. Meditate on awakening these virtues into your life.

There is a beautiful, palpable energy that arises when focusing on your breath. This practice supports a flow of natural, unhurried breathing, but is challenging enough to satisfy your busy mind. Open seated in meditation, tuning inward with a unifying om. Sun salutations flow into a steady sequence of deep forward bends, side plank, twisting triangle, hip openers and backbends. Explore the subtleties of your breath and use it as an anchor for greater awareness. Props Suggested: Two blocks.

Get the benefit of a full class in just half the time! Packed into this compact class is all the movement that you'll need to help your body stay supple and strong. Warm up with surya namaskars, flowing into a sequence of postures that greet and awaken every part of you. Includes warrior poses, vrksasana, eagle and bridge, concluding supine with supta baddha konasana and a brief savasana. Make this your go-to daily practice. Props Suggested: Two blocks.

Cycling With Nature

Why do we feel so disconnected from our selves and from the natural world?  I observe this dissonance within myself and others all the time. It feels like there is something missing and in it’s place is a great longing that cannot be filled with material stuff.  In my observations there is a natural way of things that has been compromised by modernity.  A simplicity of eating when you’re hungry, sleeping when you’re tired, spending quality time with loved ones, making things with your hands and observing the natural rhythms of life.  We have built walls around ourselves and shut ourselves off.  About 20 years ago when I first started practicing yoga I became aware of just how disconnected and shut off I’d become.  I was so used to living by an external clock and other peoples schedules I didn’t even know what I was feeling anymore.  I had no idea who I was.  I think this existential crisis that I experienced is a common one and is the catalysis that transforms many people into seekers.  What is our true nature?  What does it feel like to live in harmony with the natural world?
